Hampton, Virginia (PRWEB) August 26, 2011

On Saturday, September 17, celebrate National Gymnastics Day with a world record handstand attempt! The Hampton Convention & Visitor Bureau (CVB) sponsored event will take place at 1:00 p.m. at five locations throughout the city, including Gymnastics Inc., Carousel Park, Buckroe Beach, Hampton Roads Convention Center, and the Peninsula Town Center Town Square (fountain area).

“As it stands, 2011 is the year of the handstand,” said Wendy Hylton of Gymnastics Inc. “This year, clubs across the country will be joining forces to break the world record for the most handstands at one time. We feel this is a fun way to generate excitement for our sport and support a great cause like Children’s Miracle Network.”

Each year, USA Gymnastics celebrates National Gymnastics Day to raise exposure of the sport. Since 2001, gymnastics clubs across the country have raised more than $1.4 million for Children's Miracle Network. The monies raised are distributed to each gym club's local Children's Miracle Network hospital, which helps children around the country who are fighting illness.
